Coreopsis lanceolata (Asteraceae)
Golden flowers with yellow-orange centers drift on airy stems above tufts of strappy green leaves. Clump forming, but will seed in to naturalize an area; deadhead to prolong bloom time and to prevent seeding into smaller gardens. Clumps can be divided to rejuvenate plants over time. This species adapts well to poor, dry conditions and is wonderful in combination with grasses and other roadside and meadow-dwelling wildflowers. Long wiry stems make for an excellent cut flower.
