Eurybia x herveyi 'Twilight' (Asteraceae)
Wood Asters are tough groundcovers for part shade, growing happily in the drier forests common to the Piedmont. ‘Twilight’ is a naturally occuring hybrid of E. macrophylla and E. spectabilis, notable for its large heart-shaped leaves which spread to form a thick dark-green carpet. Lush basal growth yields upright flower stalks with flat-topped clusters of showy lavender-blue flowers from late-summer into fall; plants in partial sun will be more floriferous than those sited in heavier shade. An excellent wildflower for naturalizing along woodland edges and in open areas of shady gardens.
