Phlomis fructicosa (Lamiaceae)
(FLO-mis froo-ti-KO-sa)
Jerusalem Sage

Jerusalem Sage is a favorite for those of us who just can't get enough silvery-leaved Mediterranean plants in the garden. Phlomis offers a 2-4' shrubby form with wooly, wrinkled, narrow leaves and stems, topped with swirls of fleecy buds. Yellow flowers open in late spring on drought- and salt-tolerant plants. Create a Mediterranean environment for Phlomis: excellent drainage and full sun. Prune lightly after bloom. Evergreen in zone 7 and south. Not native.
