Callicarpa dichotoma (Verbenaceae)
(ka-lee-KAR-pa di-COT-o-ma)
Japanese Beautyberry

1989 Gold Medal Winner, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The branches of this Beautyberry arch gracefully and bow to the ground. Some of its refinement comes from the fact that the leaves are arranged along one plane rather than radiating around the stem, as is characteristic of other Beautyberry species. Leaves are smaller and less coarse than the native C. americana. Grows 4-5' in lightly shaded areas. Fall brings purple berries for our resident family of Cardinals and their visiting friends the Robins.
